• Cladonia
cristatella - British Soldier Lichen

So named for the bright-red tips this lichen exhibits, similar to the traditional uniform of the British soldier.

portenosa - Reindeer Lichen

Do you like lichen? I do! These cute little fungus-adjacent organisms are often the first colonisers of bare rocks and other disturbed environments

pyxidata - Pixie Cup

• Icmadophila
ericetorum - Peppermint Drop Lichen

Found in the Scottish highlands. I really like how the pretty pink disks contrast against the minty green this lichen stains the wood surface.

• Lobaria
pulmonaria - Tree Lungwort

Resembling lungs, hence the name, this amazing lichen apparently takes 20+ years to mature before it starts reproducing!

• Peltigera
canina - Common Dog's Tooth

This lichen had throughly colonised the moss adorning a long dry-stone wall in Northern Scotland.

collina - Tree Pelt Lichen

Quite similar to its cousins, but without the tell-tall orange bits found on other Peltigera, and quite a bit more compact that others of this family.

hymenina

A close cousin to the lichens above, also found colonising grassy moss.
